ACYOA CENTRAL COUNCIL MEETS WITH PRIMATE IN CHICAGO
On Saturday, April 17, Archbishop Khajag Barsamian, Diocesan Primate, and Diocesan Council chair Oscar Tatosian met with members of the ACYOA Central Council at St. Gregory the Illuminator Church in Chicago, IL. Council members reviewed the 11th Annual Young Adult Leadership Conference, which was held March 5-7 in Tarrytown, NY. The Rev. Fr. Yeprem Kelegian and ACYOA executive secretary Nancy Basmajian, both of whom served on the conference planning committee, also took part in last week’s meeting.
The Central Council is planning to hold another leadership event in New York City over Columbus Day weekend to give young people the opportunity to strengthen their leadership skills and find new ways to serve the Armenian Church. In the meantime, the Central Council is preparing for the ACYOA General Assembly and Sports Weekend, and the Armenia Service Program trip in July.
On Sunday, April 18, Central Council members took part in the Divine Liturgy and witnessed the ordination of Dr. Vahe Caliskan to the diaconate. At the luncheon following services, a video was shown about the March 2010 Leadership Conference, and parishioners had the opportunity to discuss youth leadership.
Central Council members will attend the Diocesan Assembly in Chicago next week and hold a meeting there on May 1.
